Information on how to get started and troubleshooting for circulating library technology.

Hotspot Tips

  • Hotspots can connect up to 10 devices (phones, laptops, tablets, etc) at a time.
  • There is no data limit.
  • Hotspots only work in the US.
  • Hotspot speed and availability is limited by cell coverage. Service may be slow in areas with poor service.

Connecting to Wifi

To connect to the internet:

  • Press the power button on the bottom of the hotspot.
  • When it turns green, press the button until "Wi-fi Name" displays.
  • Connect to the displayed wifi network name in your wifi-enabled device (laptop, tablet, phone, etc) settings
  • Press the hotspot power button again until it displays "Password"
  • Enter the password. You are now connected to the internet.

How to:

Hotspots from Central Library are provided through the Electronic Connectivity Fund (ECF) and are intended for library patrons who do not otherwise have access to equipment or services sufficient to meet the patrons’ educational needs. Checkout of a hotspot infers that the user would otherwise lack such access.

How to checkout HBPL Hotspots

  • Hotspots can be checked out for 21 days.
  • Only one hotspot can be checked out per card.
  • Renewals are allowed if no one is waiting for a Hotspot. Hotspots are in high demand, so there will most likely be a hold on your device. Plan to return the device at the 3 week due date.
  • Only adult cards (18+) can check out or reserve hotspots.
  • Reserve hotspots in the HBPL Catalog
  • You will be charged for lost or damaged hotspots and accessories. Please notify the library immediately if your hotspot has been damaged.
    • Charger $10
    • Case $10
    • Hotspot $100
  • Return your Hotspot to the circulation desk at the location on your device's tag.

Troubleshooting

  • Make sure the device has power. Plug in your hotspot and wait a few minutes before pressing the power button.
  • Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to reset the hotspot.
  • Check if other laptops, tablets, or phones can connect to the hotspot. If other devices can connect, try restarting and troubleshooting your mobile device.
  • Check page 40 of the Hotspot User Manual for Common Troubleshooting Issues.
  • If your device is more than one week overdue, it may be turned off until you return it to the library.
